How do they ride? Would you run them again?

I know smaller tire dimensions are becoming more common now but I just wasn't sure how many people actually daily a vehicle with "skinny" tires. The set up I am looking at in particular is 245/30/20 on 20x8.5" wheels for my GTO. I've honed my pothole dodging skills driving my Datsun 510 and Volvo 240, both of which were on 40 series tires, however, I've never driven anything with 30s on it. I ran the tire calculations and these will only be about .3 of an inch larger in diameter than the stockers with about .41% speed increase.

Here's the set in question -

The wheels with the tires on them look just like he ones with no tires on them. Why the fuck is every new car a donk?

I'm running 65-series tires :)

On what car? That's basically a light truck sidewall...

The profile is a bit misleading- it's a percentage of the tire width.

That being said, I've only driven 245/40/17s and those were just fine. You're obviously running rubber bands, so I can't comment from personal experience but I'd imagine your ass will be sore or numb

Ya I couldn't zoom in enough to find the specs on the tires he has on there but they should fit on my rears no problem - its the fronts im worried about. Left a vm for the seller.

I threw the donk tag in there because the guys on LS1gto.com go crazy whenever anyone suggests going bigger than 18s or 19s.

Ya after riding on coils for a while I guess I'm not too worried about my ass but more about bending the rim. Inertia isn't too big of a deal too because I've upgraded my brakes and I've added a bit of power to the 6.0

205/65-15 was a fairly common tire size in the 90s. Family cars, luxury cars, and even minivans used it.

I have one of these:

Yikes, that's only 2.9" of sidewall. A viper has 30 series tires on the rear, but 30% of 355s is 4.2" of sidewall.

Yeah, width makes a huge difference. Unfortunately with the offsets I just don't think I can go wider than 255 at the very limit and that's only bumping it up to 3"

I run 40-series in the summer. Harsh enough for me.

45 to 50's in the winter. Smaller wheels.

I haven't done 30s, but I do have 225/40s on my old Benz and that's probably about the same amount of sidewall. The only issue I have is that with the sidewall being so short, you don't have a good visual indicator if your tire's low on air, so you'd want a TPM system if your car doesn't already have them.

I've ran 40's like you have and while the increased steering response is nice, the potholes in winter were not:

Of course I live in Lunar Surface, IL so maybe you're better off.

I'm failing to see why OP would want to put minivan-sidewalled tires on his GTO, which is definitely not a minivan, or a family/luxury car for that matter. I feel like you wrote your first post to antagonize the OP. Is that statement accurate?

No it isn't.

It has more to do with the frustration of every car having huge wheels with low-profile Z-rated performance tires that don't last very long and cost a fortune. I don't like the low-profile look or the ride they provide, either. That shit is fine for sports cars, super cars, exotics, and modified cars, but you do NOT need them on a brand new stock non-ST Fiesta or Focus or Corolla or Yaris. Know what I mean?

Even a fucking Venza has 20-in low profile tires and that's NOT necessary. 15's are just fine.

Absolutely nothing against the OP.

Oh, ok. I see where you're coming from now. I thought you were just complaining about his prospective wheel/tire combo.

I agree with you about most cars not needing low-profile tires, I just didn't have any context.

The problem there is that most 30 series tires don't provide enough room for a TPM sensor. I have 285/30/20 and 245/35/20 (rear and front) on my CL. With the Yokohama tires, you would see a LOT of sidewall flexing. But, the PSS's I'm running now don't seem to have any sidewall flex at all.

DO NOT GET RUN FLATS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY

... On the positive side, you become VERY acutely aware of each and every pothole in your area and your reflexes become stupid fast.

Good to know - your 245/35/20 seem to be only about 1/3 of an inch taller than the 255/30/20 tires I seem to be looking at.

Dually noted. Unfortunately, the rear set the seller has on it (pictured) are run flats. The front set I'm looking at are definitely NOT going to be run flats.

I've heard they're surprisingly alright with non-RFTs. I'm switching over to PSS' this summer, and I don't know know where you're located, but I'm in Michigan so we've got it about as bad as humanly possible. I did need an alignment after not being able to avoid one this past summer, so it will make you pay for it.

My winter ride had 50-series and decent travel (Saabaru 9-2x aero).

Ya I'm in Denver so I can't imagine our roads are any better here. Im looking at going with the PSS or the Nitto Invos all the way around eventually.

I'm running 70 series (I think, been a while since I've looked). Stock was 75 series. Admittedly.... very small truck. And I've had 80 aspect on a car before, for a very short time (got something 20mm wider and shrank the aspect to 65). Now that, those were some direly cheapass 175/80-14 tires that were on a Dodge Shadow America, and if I recall correctly, actually found a set of 195/65-14 to replace.
